mini rope twist

From now until March we will be participating in kandy land kurls protective challenge. Typically I always go with mini braids because I know they last a really long time, but this time, I had no say. Miss A saw a youtube video and the female has twist and it was all over. For days she asked me to do her hair like that. BIG FAT *sigh*. Her last set of mini twist only lasted about 2.5 weeks so I wasn't so sure they'd be worth our while. But, who am I to argue with Miss A, she knew she wanted the twist, so twist is what I gave her! =) At the last minute  I decided I'd do rope twist instead of just regular ol' 2 strand twist. My poor fingers were tired but the results are awesome! Seriously.. I woke up 2 nights in a row twisting in my sleep. LOL.

I decided to measure them with a tape measure so I could see how much growth she gets over the next 2 months of the challenge.

the crown of her head - 17.5 in

the back bottom - 12.5 in

the front in her "halo" section - 10.5 in

The perimeter of hair has always been shorter so I'm pretty excited to see that much length!

inspired style: braids and twist

I was browsing facebook this morning when I came across a super cute style done by Goldilocks*N*Me and I knew I wanted to do it on A before we start Kandy Land Kurl's protective challenge. After a monster of a detangling session, it took me maybe 15 minutes to do this style. Detangling was a beast. I had took out her previous style and she wore the braid out for 4 days. 4 days of rumbling, tumbling, doing zumba, acting crazy. Needless to say... her hair was a MESS and it didn't look like the former braid out that it was. lol

The original:

The tangled web of knots. =)

Length check! Paste her waist band of her pants while sitting!

 Our version:

We also used some new hair products that we won in a hair chat over at ONK, more information on those to come!

braids to the side

I was only able to leave A's hair out for 2 days before it was a tangled mess. I sat her down yesterday with no particular style in mind and just started braiding. I let her pick out some beads and she picked out some star beads gifted by our great friend Michelle. I added some regular clear beads just for something extra. I love this style, it's so simple yet so fun for me to look at. =) It kind of reminds me of a waterfall. Now... on to the photos!

*sigh* It was VERY difficult getting these photos. Our neighbor was walking their dog and the kids were so excited by that. Considering it's been about 2 months since I lasted braided any hair, I think it turned out pretty good. =D

**edited to add**
Today I was browsing through my news feed on facebook and i saw a fellow new blogger Brittany had done the same style on her niece. This is a great example of our a style can work for a younger child such as A or for an older teen like her niece.

Curlformers Hair Carnival & Giveaway!

This month we're linking up in a curlformers hair carnival and giveaway! This giveaway is a little different from most, you go to each blog participating and grab your letter for the secret code. Fun right?! =)

I decided to throw some curlformers in A's mini braids just to help them last until I take them out this weekend. She's had these braids in for 7 weeks! The roots are super fuzzy and she has a ton of new growth! I used the Queen Helene on them and the hold wasn't as great as when I use eco styler gel.. but oh well. I braided the braids all to one side and then added the curlformers. The curls came out GREAT on the mini braids. I wish I hadn't of braided it to the side and just put the curlformers all the way to the root to hide some of the frizz. Guess we can't win them all right? lol

our secret letter for the giveaway phrase is the letter:

Be sure to head on over to the other blogs for the other letters and  to untrained hair mom to enter the giveaway!! Good luck! =)
